Frustrating

I opened my mail from yesterday and found that a check bounced that someone paid for my headscarves with. This means I am out the $15 for the check and then the bank charged me $15 because she didn't have enough funds her in her account. This is frustrating because I would have rather just given them to her than to be out the extra money. I hope this issue can be resolved and it was a simple mistake. Life lessons always cost money. Now I wonder do I still accept checks?

That is such a bummer!! :( Like you said- hopefully this will resolve itself and it was just a really bad oversight!

Hey Angel, call your bank and tell them that you've been a loyal customer and you would like them to clear the charge for the check bouncing. It will take ten minutes but the charge will be cleared!

That is horrible. Hope things look up :)

After working at a bank for a number of years....call them...tell them what happened and let them know this isn't something that happens often to you...they will most likely clear the charge for you. We cleared them as long as it wasn't a 'common occurrence' type customer.

Big time Bummer! I had to ask myself that same question regarding Rummage Sales after this happened. A $5 check bounced, bank charged me $12 and a hardly worn Old Navy little boys coat was gone. You are right... it would have felt better to just have given it away than to feel the bitterness I felt for a long time after trying to get the gal to pay me back the $17. Never did happen... my husband finally convinced me to let it go after several failed attempts and broken promises that it "was in the mail". Sooooo, all that to say that I really have LET IT GO :)! Yeah, I would maybe think twice about the check thing.

Didn't see you at LiftLight... hmmmm, wonder why??

My advice regarding if you want to continue accepting checks--I know that a few years ago when we were doing a garage sale we did what was called a "merchant verification of funds." We called the bank listed on the check and said we would like a merchant verification of funds...then the bank confirmed that there was $ in the account right at that moment to cover the check amount. That said, I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble to continue accepting checks...perhaps on larger dollar amounts.

Hope it wasn't my check! If it was, you'd tell me, right?

I agree with the others who suggested to call your bank... they are generally really good about working with you, especially if it's your first incident.
