Problem solved

Okay, many of you might already know this, but I didn't. And I like to think of myself as somewhat handy in the kitchen so this is a little humbling.

Problem: Your plastic wrap is always coming out of the box when you are trying to tear it off.

Did you know that there are little tabs on the side of plastic wrap box that are supposed to be pushed in? I know I have been in the kitchen as long as I can remember and I never looked on the side of box where it said, "Push in here." The little tabs on each side keep it from "jumping" out of the box right when I am ready to tear it. Brilliant!

So there is my little FYI for the day:)

Are you going to check your box now?

#22 Watching my children sleep

Number #22 from my "25 random things about me"was very applicable tonight.

Carl called me into the hallway and said, "Quick you NEED to go into the girls' room."

So, before I went in I guessed that Adie was sleeping buck naked in her crib.

I would have won the jackpot, if there ever was won.

Yes, Adie was sleeping naked with nothing in her crib. Brrrr! She even took off the duct taped diaper, which was very impressive I might add. (We have to tape her diapers on her now because she takes them off as fast as you can put them back on. But she has no interest in using the potty)

She really was sweet to watch, but all things must come to an end becaue I didn't want to have to clean her up when she did go potty. I put her diaper and PJ's back on and there wasn't even a peep out of her. She went straight back to bed.

I am off to bed!

25 random things about me

I was tagged on facebook but I like to blog more so here it is...try to do it yourself. It really was quite fun.

1. I always wanted to be a mom. I knowingly went to college to get my MRS degree.

2. I can't stick out my tongue, it is attached at the tip.

3. I have always wanted to adopt but I didn't think I would do it before I turned 30.

4. I never ever ever thought I would live next door to my sister-in-law who bought her and my husband's childhood home. (Not even on the radar)

5. I am not a morning person, but I know that if I get up earlier my day goes much better.

6. I like raisin bran but I don't like to eat raisins.

7. I felt the sexiest 8 1/2 months pregnant. Once I hit my due date, I felt like an over done turkey.

8. I am not creative at all! I confess I am a really good copy cat!

9. I very much dislike traveling. Once I get there, everything is great, but the time between point A and point B is yucky.

10. I can clean up poop, vomit, blood, but if I have to clean up hair it makes me gag! I had a roommate (bless her soul...I love her) but she would put her hair on the shower wall and I couldn't handle it. I HAVE to wear gloves cleaning the bathroom. I laugh because God gave me three girls. They might have to clean their own bathroom in the near future.

11. I love to organize and clean but you would never know it if you came to my house today.

12. I want to invent something someday, but that creates a problem when you refer to number 8.

13. I don't listen to much music because when it is actually quiet at my house...I want it to stay that way.

14. I once said flying back from China, "I will never take children on an international flight." Never say never! Now I will be flying with two.

15. I married the love of my life and I love spending all this time with him. We are together almost all the time day and night and I love it.

16. My love language is quantity time.

17. I am so thankful that I have a relationship with Jesus because life would be way too hard if I didn't have someone to love me completely. And the best part is that I can spend eternity with him.

18. Orange Fanta and chocolate covered doughnuts are my downfall.

19. When I was pregnant, I never hit my highest non-pregnant weight. I have not always been skinny and really struggled with my weight in high school. I learned that I needed to let God love me for who I was right then and there and not some person in my imagination. Only then could I love others and myself the way God loves us.

20. I don't watch TV except for the occasional Bill O'Rielly on Fox.

21. I can only sew straight lines.

22. Watching my children sleep at night is the most precious sight ever!

23. I can't drive a stick shift and I grew up on a farm...how sad is that!

24. I have the sweep once a day policy so if you come to my house mid-day keep your shoes on.

25. I can't wait for garage sale season to start!

Adie is TWO

I don't know if you can see it in the picture but the tip of her hair did start on fire. She got a little too close to blow out those candles. Nothing came of it, but just a little spark. Next year we will have to slick her hair back.

Yes, these are her siblings and cousins from next door. (and you don't even see all of them:)

Take time to dance

My husband and I just needed to dance this evening. Life is hard sometimes.

The past couple of days I have been reflecting on Proverbs 3:5-6

"Trust in the LORD with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all of your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight."

What does it mean to trust God with all of your heart?

For us it means stepping out in faith and starting our own business in a time when it is economically difficult. It means adopting two children, when we already have three children.

In all of our ways acknowledge him...so even when life is hard and deals you tough blows...we will keep acknowledging him.

God is leading our family and I am so thankful that I can stand firm to His promises...He is working for our good, he has not abandoned us, he loves us and we are his children.

It's official...

I sent off all the paperwork today!
What's next?

We wait for about two weeks until all of it reaches Ethiopia. Then we wait for a referral call or email saying that they have two little boys or a boy and a girl for us.

Then we wait for a court date...

Then we travel over there to get them.

Time frame?

I have no idea! We could have them this summer or this fall. There are so many factors in international adoption that you are to expect the unexpected.

I feel "paper pregnant" as one of my friends referred to it. I don't think I will even have to wait 9 months...AND I won't have to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom:)

If you can't tell...I am really excited!

What happens when...

You leave your two year old coloring at the table to help your other child clean up her room.

Adoption Update

We are sooooo close to being able to send in our dossier! I am waiting on two forms then we notarize everything and write some checks....ooooo....I am excited!

I was looking at pictures yesterday from a woman who went to one of the orphanages in Ethiopia over Christmas. I started crying when I saw all those children and then it hit me that two of them could be ours...I actually could be looking at my child and not know it. Overwhelming.

With no mail running today, my goal is to send everything out on Wednesday. I just want to be done with the paperwork...for now anyways.

I have been working on my blog for my Wings products. Nothing fancy...but just a way to show everyone all of my nursing shawls, bows and head scarves. I hope to be able to tell you all the address very soon. Then you can share it with everyone you know!

Also, I have an Adoption fund raising garage sale in the works. It will be in May, so gather all of your extras in your home and save it for us! You will feel so much lighter thinning out all of those closets and it will go for a great cause too! More details to come...

Facebook

I finally signed up...

Well, not really - Carl did it for me.

He was kind of tired of being responsible for telling what what going on in the cyber-world out there. (like friends having babies...etc.)

I came home one night and flipped open the laptop to find myself signed into my account.

Facebook is a crazy networking environment.

To all my bloggy readers...I still like this environment better. Have no fear, I am still here.

We have sick kids this week and I have a head cold. The sun will shine tomorrow and hopefully it will be warmer and they all will have smiles on their faces!

Working in Cancun

Yes, I know it is rough working in Cancun, but I can tell you that we are at least having fun while we do it. Here is a quick snapshot after the wedding. I will post some of my best shots in a couple of days!

Thanks for praying

This morning went GREAT with the social worker! I am so curious as to why I was so nervous! She didn't even want to look at the house because she wanted to know us and know our heart for adoption. She wasn't worried and thought we were perfect candidates and she has worked with hundreds of people just like us!

I also was able to get an apt for a massage this afternoon. Hopefully that helps with my neck!

Thanks for praying!

Angel

Pain in the neck

Yesterday morning I woke up with the biggest kink in my neck and I was hoping that today would be better. Unfortunately, it is not!

So - I am a little bit humbled right now. In two hours we have our homestudy and my house is no where near as clean as I would like it to be. God is really breaking the neat freak that lives inside of me! I almost hate to admit it that if I add two more children (that means 5 kids 5 and under) that I would have to declare myself a messy. Yikes!

Right now I am calling around to get a massage because tomorrow Carl and I leave for Cancun to shoot a wedding. That's right! We are going somewhere warm to work! Yahooo! ... I just need my neck to feel better!

2009 Goals

Every year Carl and I create our goals and I thought that this would be a great place to write them down.

1. To grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2Peter 3:18) Our pastor gave an amazing message this morning and I really want to strive towards knowing Jesus more this year.

2. Exercise 3 days a week - We were blessed with a 6 month membership to the YMCA so there is no reason I can't do this!

3. Read through the bible in one year - I have started this and it really only adds up to 10 minutes a day. I am trying to start out my day with reading God's word so that it will permeate the whole day.

4. Friday night date night with Carl

5. Read for 15 minutes before going to bed. I read a lot of children's literature, but I need work on reading other things. I can do 15 minutes!

6. Be intentional about meeting people!

7. Learn our children's native language. In Ethiopia there are many different languages spoken so we will have to wait until we get our referral. Until then I have a lot of books to read on adoption.

8. Have special time one on one with each child.

So now next month you can ask me how and I am doing and hold me accountable!

Do you have goals for this year? If so, I would like to hear about them!

New Years at the ranch

I have been MIA since we went to the ranch for the past four days. We had a great time relaxing and hanging out. We had to come home a day early since there was bad weather in the forecast.
We are at home cleaning and getting ready for our home study which is on Tuesday.

Great news!!! Adie has started to let me do her hair again! I love the pigtails!
